Kneeling Close to the Earth

We need a Savior, but we also need a contrast.

We need a different way.

Lent is an invitation into the backwards way of Jesus; a way he calls his people into. Humility. Sacrifice. Letting go of control. Generosity over greed.

He mentors us into our humanness, and it's there that we find him. It's there that we connect with him.

My Lenten Series: Kneeling Close to the Earth will kick off on Ash Wednesday, February 18th. It will include a reflection for each Sunday in Lent and will end with the best news of all time: The Resurrection News.

Christianity is everything the opposite of our fleshy impulses. Jesus refused power for the sake of power. He didn't come in loud; he didn't shove his way to the center of the room to be noticed. He came poor. The Gospels are full of those private, life-changing stories of him sitting with people who Jews would not associate with, people with soured reputations. Forgotten ones. Often misunderstood, and a threat to those who liked their seats of power, Jesus didn't get rattled. He wasn't defensive. His mission was not fame and recognition, or protecting his ego; it was the redemption of all things--starting with his beloved Creation.
